After a six months wait, my silver 20’ 2018 Roadtrek SS Agile E-Trek finally arrived. Hill and I flew out to Phoenix on Wednesday, Nov 29th and took delivery.
The EcoTrek 8 package is pretty complex so the walk thru took us longer than expected. However, we headed south that afternoon, and, thanks to Hill’s invaluable help driving, we made it home in two days. Didn’t try to sleep in it since we didn’t want to spend the time trying to outfit it for camping. Unbelievably, we found some nice hotels to stay in, even in Fort Stockton, which used to be pretty short of worthwhile accommodations.
The unit handled beautifully on the way home. On the flats of West Texas, where the speed limit is 80 mph, we had a 10 to 15 knot cross wind. Most of the time you couldn’t even tell it. It tracked like it was on rails. Even at those speeds, with a headwind we got right at 16 mpg (diesel.)
While I drove a few hours each day, Hill did “squeak” troubleshooting and brought us up to date on the systems, although the manuals were woefully lacking on info for a coach equipped like mine is. It’s essentially a cross between the 20’ SS Agile and the 24’ E-Trek. All electric. thanks to the 800 Watt battery system, 370 watt solar system, and high output generator to keep the system charged.
More to come as I start traveling again, but for now Molly is riding shotgun in her booster seat and will be able to travel with me around town on shopping trips etc since the coach has a 4 to 7 day “off-the-grid” capability.
My thanks to Hill, who took 4 days off work, to drive the coach and me back to San Antonio. Without his help, as tired as I get, it would have been a six to seven day trip. I couldn't have done it without him!
