HABBAKUK
I listen to Our Daily Bread every day, and the other day they referenced Habbakuk in a way that piqued my interest so yesterday afternoon while I was sitting with Molly in the cool of the evening I reread it.
Only three chapters long, Habbakuk is essentially pulling a Moses...taking God to task. In this case it’s how long will God allow evil.
I’ve been reflecting on the Dark Ages when the Muslims dominated the know world and destroyed everything Christian in their conquest. It rings true of the slow take over of the Muslims in today’s world. In spite of the vast majority of peaceful Muslims, the radicals are bent on destroying anything in their conquest today, just as of yore.
Will God allow it? The Crusades reclaimed territory for Christianity, but what a price! The atrocities were equally appalling on both sides.
Most of Habbakuk reads like the Democrats and Republicans, not the foreign invaders Babylon. But be that as it may, I think the world today needs deliverance from all three…
What is God’s plan for American, me, my children, my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren. I can only hold on to God’s promise that He will deal with the evil doers in His own time, and is using the era to bring His people back to Him.
I had forgotten how many familiar passages were in Habbakuk…
2:2 Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald can run with it.”
2:3 For the revelations awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and wil not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
And:
2:23 The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.
Again:
3:19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.
If the translation isn’t quite familiar, Read it in your own version. These are from the NIV, Andrea’s favorite translation.
Late in the afternoon I put out a camp chair and Molly and I watched the thunderheads building over the lake. I never tire of watching God’s incredible strength, majesty and beauty on display.
