Worlds of Fun RV Resort - Kansas City, MO
This is written in retrospect. It’s Friday, 9/14 and I’m at Hill’s. Hopefully I’ll get caught up in the next few days with the rest of the trip,
Sunday was a very interesting day. When I woke up I ask God to give me someone to talk with today. As the day went on it was a beautiful day in a wonderful RV park and Molly and I pulled out a camp chair and sat under the awning. Periodically she and I would make a circuit of the camp roads so she could do her exploring.
On one of our jaunts we passed a big rig where two boys were playing on their scooters...you know the kind with two wheels that you balance on and there were so many stories about the batteries catching fire? They were doing some fantastic tricks on them. When they saw Molly they wanted to make friends, but their scooters scared her. They were wonderful. The oldest, who turned out to be in the sixth grade, hunkered down by me with his skate board behind him and just waited until she ventured out to make friends. Then he first offered her a gentle fist to sniff and finally she allowed him to pet her. Turns out they have several horses and dogs at home. The fascinating thing, though, was they were home schooled and full timing around the US. They had covered almost all the states and were going to finish up the rest before they went home. Then, according to him, they were going to ship the RV overseas and spend a year touring there. He and his younger brother, who was in the third grade, were both super intelligent and we had a wonderful conversation for about a half hour.
When we got back to Yonderin’ several people dropped by. One was from Texas originally but now lived in Phoenix. He wanted to move back but his wife was anchored solid. He said he talked to everyone from Texas he was so homesick. His friend, who was with him, wanted to know about my military service, so I shared with him awhile.
Then a couple whose rig was parked behind mine stopped by to look at the trailer. They had been riding bikes around the campground for awhile and each time they came by we had exchanged pleasantries. When I asked them about themselves the conversation really began to get interesting. They were from Grapevine and attended Bethel Church where he was a deacon. His ministry, and his profession, was being a wellness and health consultant to veterans. His training was as a strength and recovery therapist, but he and his team cared for the entire person...their self esteem, spiritual issues, addiction issues, etc. It was fascinating listening to him talk about his ministry. As the conversation turned her way she revealed she was an artist who did spiritual paintings “as the spirit led.” (My translation of her language.) He showed me some picture on his phone and the paintings were very impactful...especially the eyes on some of her paintings of both people and wild life which seemed to be reaching into your soul. One painting of a contemporary Jesus was especially good. She auctioned off her paintings and sold them at art shows around the country (they were headed to one at the time) and gave the proceeds to the church ministry with the veterans.
The next morning I stopped by their rig just before they pulled out to ask if they had business cards. Then we had a prayer session together about our futures and our travels.

Spiritual Reflections:
Ask and you shall receive. It seems it never fails. If I ask someone comes along and the conversation turns spiritual. Sometimes it’s as superficial as wishing them a blessing. And at other times it’s like my Texas visitors...and in depth blessing for us all as we share about our spiritual journeys. And sometimes it’s just a ministry of listening.
I may be fooling myself, but this trip really seems to be confirming what I believe will become my new ministry.
