Des Moines KOA - Adel, IA
This also is written in retrospect from Hill’s. Slowly but surely I’m getting caught up.
Today was a real bummer. After an easy journey to Altoona I stopped to check into a campground Andrea and I had used, and liked, several times on the way to Wisconsin when Hill lived there. It used to be a quiet, rural setting in rolling farm lands. Too many years have passed! Now it sits in an industrial area that is fast encroaching on it’s boundaries. There’s so much construction the campground has become a worker’s campground and almost every site is a permanent resident...most of whose sites looked like they cared less about the way they looked. I was so disappointed I just pulled through and kept on going.
I made reservations at a KOA 18 miles west of Des Moines. This meant another half hour drive back to Des Moines and then a half hour west to the campground.
Turns out it was worth it though. I got one of their premium pull through sites with a concrete pad, chairs, table, fire pit, grill...the whole nine yards! The weather had turned wonderful and Molly and I sat out on the patio...well, actually, she patrolled the grassy areas surrounding it. After a libation (or two??) I ordered a pizza and we had supper alfresco, until it was almost dark.
The real frustration continues, though. At a rest stop I tried to use the water pump and the batteries were totally dead. More about this saga when I catch up with the time at Hill’s.
Pictures: If you want to see more click here. I actually took several pictures of this one, including a “foodie.” Probably should have done a “selfie” too, but didn’t.
Spiritual Reflection:
I’ve mentioned it before. I had forgotten how much I enjoy traveling and seeing new things. Because I was trying to reach Hill’s my schedule was not as flexible as I would have liked. There were several things I wanted
to stop for, but didn’t. Just traveling as I am, though, brought back some fond memories of all the mission trips through the years. I’ve supported SAMS (South American Missionary Society) for years and am supporting a young missionary in Namibia now. Last month I felt led to call SAMS and offer my services if they were needed. Don’t know if anything will come of it, but at least I feel like I followed the Lord’s leading.
