Fort Stockton RV Park

Fort Stockton, Texas

May 9, 2019

“I heered ‘bout a West Texas pilot once who had a tailwind…”

The beginning of a West Texas pilot’s tall tale

For four days I sat at Van Horn with the wind out of the West at 15 to 25 miles per hour. When I left out this morning heading east for Fort Stockton...15 to 25 miles per hour, occasional gusts to 40.

Out of the East.

Other than the wind, this is my new ideal run...just about 125 -150 miles. With a half hour fuel stop and a half hour lunch break today was just under three-and-a-half hours.

I plan to stay here thru Saturday, and Sunday I’ll head for Junction /North Llano River RV Park. A shade under 200 miles. That’s at my new max range, but I plan on a fuel stop, a lunch break and I never pass up a rest area or turnout. That makes it about a six hour run, but I’m going to leave early and not worry about what time I get in.

This is a great campground...level sites, good utilities, and--most of all--friendly staff. When I made my reservation I forgot to tell them I had trouble walking long distances, so I wound up at the site farthest from the office and cafe (oh, yes. Great little cafe serves breakfast and lunch. Incredible chicken fried steak. We’ll see how long my will power holds out.)

Continuing on...I walked up to the office to get some ice and asked--since I was staying here three days would it be possible to move closer to the office and perhaps on a site with a shade tree? They not only let me move, the lady behind the desk got her golf cart and carried me back to my site! It’s no wonder this place has a ★★★★★ rating!

Till then…

Thanks for yonderin’ with me
